Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy

Overview

Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy provides the skills and knowledge for an person  to be competent to work in a supervisory and/or middle management role in a community pharmacy, such as Retail Manager.   Likely functions within that  industry for those who achieve this level of competency include :

  • maintaining store safety and security,
  • managing sales and customer service,
  • leading, training  and managing staff,
  • managing merchandise and store presentation.
  • buying merchandise and controlling inventory
  • implementing human resource policies

Role of individuals who work relatively autonomously:

  • under broad supervision of the pharmacist,
  • coordinate and supervise others in the workplace,
  • have a broad knowledge base incorporating some theoretical concepts requiring the identification, analysis and evaluation of information from a variety of sources reflecting the particular needs of the community pharmacy industry

Certificate III in Community Pharmacy

Overview

Provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent to work in a community pharmacy with some autonomy but under the supervision of a pharmacist.   Likely functions within this industry for those who achieve this level of competency include

  • developing specialist product knowledge to support customers to prevent and/or manage health conditions,
  • assisting in the operation of the dispensary,
  • merchandising and marketing products and controlling stock,
  • basic staff development and training.

Certificate II in Community Pharmacy

Overview

The knowledge for an individual to work at entry level in a community pharmacy. Typical functions within that industry for those who achieve this level of competency include:

  • serving and interacting with customers,
  •  merchandising products and controlling stock,
  • understanding the product range and the roles and responsibilities of pharmacy assistants and pharmacists,
  • communicating with customers to identify needs and provide appropriate product advice and/or referral.

Community Pharmacy PSA

THE PHARMACEUTICAL SOCIETY OF AUSTRALIA -

Essential training for Pharmacy Staff:

Ct II Community Pharmacy – this is entry level training for someone new to the industry and includes generic retail skills and important Product Knowledge training.  This also includes the mandatory S2S3 training (Accept Prescriptions and Support the Sale of Pharmacy & Pharmacist only medicines) which form part of the QCPP Accredition process.

Ct III Community Pharmacy – this is available to people who already have Ct II and want to upgrade, or who have some experience in the industry and can achieve the Ct II component quickly or through Recognition of Prior Learning application.   Many Pharmacy Assistants will gain their Dispensary Qualifications as part of their Ct III training plan.

Certificate IV in Small Business Management - for retail managers, pharmacists and preregistered pharmacists

Diploma of Management -  for people in management roles within the pharmacy, preregistered pharmacists or pharmacists. Unit selection in PDF 

Pharmacists are able to enroll in the PSA Small Business Management and Diploma of Management programs - these qualifications, as well as enhancing business management skills, contribute 32 Level 2 points towards CPD 

Whilst pharmacists do not attract Govt subsidies normally, however funding maybe available for The Diploma of Management and the Certificate IV in Small Business:
